SEN Swim – Go Fund me

Joe, Queensmill School’s PE teacher has set up a fundraiser for SEN Swim.

SEN Swim is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to deliver swimming lessons and activities for children and young people with special educational needs and an Educational and Health Care (EHC) plan.

The organisation was founded in 2021 and aims to start delivering lessons and activities after April 12th when the pools re open.  SEN Swim will operate in the West London areas of Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Hounslow.

As a teacher in specialist Autism school, Joe has seen the vast benefits that swimming has on our students, including; sensory benefits, safety aspects, supporting learning in other areas, learning a valuable life skill and most importantly the majority of students love to swim!

Swimming lessons and activities are increasingly difficult to access for some children and young people with Special Educational Needs. The reasons for this vary including; physical accessibility, swimming pools being too crowded and noisy, swim instructors not understanding the needs of the young people, the environment not appropriate for some people’s needs and affordability.

SEN Swim aims to increase the opportunity for children and young people with SEN to access swimming lessons and activities that meet their unique and individual needs.

Swimming lessons can be a highly costly activity and at SEN Swim we aim to make it as accessible for people of all social backgrounds. Therefore, they will be relying on fundraising and contributions to help subsidise costs for those families that are on a low income or unable to work.

This fundraiser is not for the organisation itself, it is to create a fund to help families on low income to have more affordable lessons.

Today we are please asking for donations (no matter how small or big) that will contribute towards the cost of swimming lessons for the young people the organisation aims to serve!

So please if you can donate any amount, they will appreciate it hugely and the difference it can make for a young person and their family is massive!
